Messaging is triggered by data already in the platform rather than composed manually, so an attendance dip or a missed payment reaches the right guardian the same day. Content is available in English plus Hausa, Yoruba and Igbo in Nigeria, and Akan, Ga, Ewe and Dagbani in Ghana.
The engagement problem
Schools already communicate a great deal. The difficulty is that most of it is broadcast — newsletters, notices, termly reports — arriving on a schedule set by the school rather than by anything happening to the child. A parent learns their child has been struggling in February when it started in October.
The change that matters is not more communication. It is communication triggered by the data, sent to the guardian who can act, on the channel they read.

Parent portal
Attendance, timetable, attainment, behaviour and house points, assessment results, fee statements and payment, documents and school notices — scoped to the guardian’s own children, with a family view for parents with several children in the school.
Multi-channel messaging
App push, SMS and WhatsApp, with the channel chosen by what a household actually uses. In markets where smartphone penetration is uneven, SMS carries the messages that must land and the app carries everything else. Channel effectiveness is reported so schools can stop paying for channels nobody opens.
Triggered alerts
- Attendance below threshold, or an unexplained absence on the day.
- Assessment results and mastery updates as they are published.
- Behaviour and house point events, positive as well as negative.
- Fee due dates, instalment reminders and receipts.
- Health and medical record notifications from the school nurse.
Payments
Parents pay fees, levies and trip costs directly, with reconciliation flowing back into school accounting without manual matching.
Parent-teacher conferences
Slot booking against real teacher availability, with reminders and virtual meeting support.
Language and access
Communication is delivered in English plus Hausa, Yoruba and Igbo in Nigeria, and Akan, Ga, Ewe and Dagbani in Ghana. For low-connectivity contexts, SMS micro-learning and radio programming extend reach to households without reliable data.
This is a design requirement rather than a localisation nicety. A parent engagement system that only works for households with unlimited data and a modern handset will systematically under-serve exactly the families whose engagement matters most for attendance and attainment.
Attendance and chronic absence
Chronic absence rarely begins as chronic absence. It begins as a pattern — particular days, particular subjects — that is visible in the register weeks before anyone would describe the child as persistently absent. Same-day contact on unexplained absence, and threshold alerts to both the pastoral team and the guardian, is the mechanism by which that pattern gets interrupted.
