It is used by charter, district, public, private and independent schools. Teacher development aligns to the Danielson Framework and state evaluation frameworks, and the platform supports LTI integration with existing district systems.
What US schools use Edves for
American schools are generally well served for student information systems and poorly served for anything that connects the SIS to what happens in the classroom. Edves is usually adopted for the instructional layer — lesson design, observation, formative assessment, curriculum coverage — either alongside an existing SIS through LTI integration or as a full replacement for smaller independent schools.
Standards and curriculum
- Common Core State Standards and NGSS.
- All 50 state standards, including Texas TEKS, Florida B.E.S.T. and California CCSS.
- CTE and career pathway modules.
Curriculum coverage reporting runs against the state standard a school is actually accountable to, which matters in states that have diverged substantially from Common Core. See curriculum.
ESSA reporting and subgroup monitoring
Disaggregated reporting is built in rather than assembled at the end of the year: attainment, growth, attendance and discipline by the subgroups ESSA requires. The operational value is not the annual return — it is seeing a subgroup gap open in November rather than confirming it in June.
Data protection
| Requirement | Position |
|---|---|
| FERPA | Education records handled as school official under direct control, with role-scoped access and audit trails |
| COPPA | Age-appropriate handling for under-13 users, with school-obtained consent workflows |
| State student privacy laws | Configured per deployment; documentation supplied during procurement |
| Data ownership | The district or school retains ownership; export available at any time and at termination |
Teacher development
Observation aligns to the Danielson Framework for Teaching and to state evaluation frameworks. Ratings require evidence from the observed lesson, with job-embedded micro-PD prompts and peer review loops. The design intent is developmental — observation records include the teacher’s right of reply. See Pedagogy with AI.
AI in US districts
State-level AI guidance for schools is still consolidating, and districts are largely setting their own policy. The pattern that holds up is the one described in AI in education: acceptable-use policy first, teacher workload tools second, student-facing tools last. Districts that started with student-facing AI have generally spent the following year retrofitting governance.
School types served
Charter, district, public, private and independent schools. Independent schools with 200–1,200 students are the most common single profile, typically replacing a combination of an aging SIS, a separate gradebook and a messaging service.
